Getting here, as they say, is half the fun.

Locals like to joke about the secret entrance to the tunnel from the mainland, but it doesn’t exist. There also is no bridge between the mainland and the islands.

Visitors and locals alike access the island by ferry, aircraft, or private watercraft.

Two ferry companies provide service between the Ohio mainland and the islands. You can also ride a ferry service between Put-in-Bay, located on South Bass Island, north to Middle Bass Island.

The Jet Express offers passenger-only transport between the mainland ports of Port Clinton, Sandusky and Lorain to the island posts of Put-in-Bay and Kelleys Island. The Jet offers group rates, charters, and also offers special excursions during the summer season. The Jet runs daily ferry service during the summer season with boats departing as late as midnight. Daily service ends in September. The Jet does offer service on weekends in October. Check the Jet’s website for current passenger fares, and schedule information. The Jet Express

Miller Boat Line (The Miller Ferry) offers passenger and vehicle transport between the mainland at Catawba Point (Port Clinton) and Put-in-Bay (South Bass Island) and between Catabwa Point and Middle Bass Island. The Miller ferries run daily half hour service during the summer season, some days as late as 9 p.m. Miller’s official schedule begins in March and ends in late November, but the ferry generally operates as long as the weather allows. Check the Miller Ferry website for passenger and vehicle rates, and schedule information.

Put-in-Bay’s Public Marina is operated by the Village of Put-in-Bay, and the DeRivera Park Trust. The Village operates A and C Docks in the downtown harbor, and also operates the public bath house in DeRivera Park. The DeRivera Park Trust operates B Dock with revenue used for upkeep of the downtown park. Smaller marinas also offer docks, including Oak Point State Park. Sailors can also opt to tie up to one of the Put-in-Bay Township Port Authority mooring buoys in the downtown harbor. A shuttle service is included in the mooring buoy rental.

The Put-in-Bay Township Port Authority also operates Put-in-Bay Airport on Langram Road.
