2025 Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Candidates:

Nan Burr
I have been enjoying this community since 1998 and I feel a need to commit to the community. In 2007, we were blessed to purchase a cottage here, and we spend as much time here as we can. I am also part owner of Joe's Bar & Restaurant for the last 19 years. Joe's is a member of the Chamber and actively supports all of its endeavors. I was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society for 5 years, until this last election in September. Throughout my life, even as a child, my parents were very active in volunteering, and it rubbed off on me. I worked on fundraisers for the American Heart Association, Geauga Community Hospital, (now UH Geauga Medical Center), I was a member of Geauga County Panhellenic group, a 26-year member and past president of the Burton-Middlefield Rotary Club. Since my husband is president of The Perry Group, I continually help with their fundraising efforts. I would be honored to serve the PIB Chamber of Commerce, giving as much time as I am able.

I bought the Anchor Inn in 2023 with my wife Emily. We stayed at the hotel in 2021 and fell in love with it. We had just moved back to Ohio after almost 20 years on the East Coast. Emily got me a weekend stay at the Anchor Inn for my birthday. She knew I really wanted to visit Put-In-Bay again after such a long time away. During our stay, the former owners expressed a desire to retire. That brief conversation stuck with Emily and me. We pursued the opportunity and finalized everything the next year. I had spent my youth and early adult years coming to the island, first with family and then with friends, especially for the annual volleyball tournaments. That time and wonderful memories really fueled my desire to return to the island. Prior to buying the hotel, I worked for 30 years in university administration, first at The University of Akron, where I received my degrees, then the University of Maryland and finally at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. In my last role I was Vice-Provost for Graduate Studies and had oversight of all graduate programs as well as all online programs. I was responsible for enrollment management with a $100 million per year revenue goal. I have experience in marketing, working with agencies, business development, program management, event management on local, regional, and international levels. I have a passion for service and have served on numerous economic development boards and strategic planning boards for industry and local government. I was president of our homeowner’s association in Maryland (610 homes) and here in Ohio (98 homes). As a relative newcomer, I feel my perspective and enthusiasm would be an asset to the Chamber board. I continue to learn new things about the community all the time and would like to contribute beyond being a chamber member.

Hi, my name is Dylan Genzman. I'm a 25-year-old entrepreneur with a deep appreciation for the local business community that helped shape who I am today. Growing up around family-owned businesses and in a family deeply involved in entrepreneurship and customer service, I've always been surrounded by the mindset of hard work, innovation, and building lasting relationships. I learned early on the importance of discipline, teamwork, and integrity. My experience as both a business owner and consumer/tourist has taught me how collaboration and hard work lead to real results. Being on the Island of Put In Bay for the last 4 years, I've decided that I would like to take on a bigger role in expanding the tourism and business of Put In Bay. I'm running for a position with the Chamber of Commerce because I believe in the power of small businesses to drive growth, create opportunity, and strengthen our community. My goal is to help connect people, share ideas, and make sure our local businesses have the tools and support they need to thrive.

I am very enthusiastic about joining the board as I believe I can bring a fresh look to things while keeping Put-in-Bay traditions alive. I grew up and went to school on the island, and then graduated in 2022 from Kent State with a degree in graphic design. I love all types of art and design, which I believe can be very useful, as I am a creative person. Put-in-Bay is very important to me, and I want to see it grow and thrive!

Erin Urge
I am proud to call Put-in-Bay my lifelong home. Born and raised on the island, I have a deep love for our island's character, charm and close-knit community. Living on the island and going to Put-in-Bay school taught me the value of connection, work ethic and looking out for one another. This community means the world to me- the people, businesses, and the strong sense of connection we all share. My goal is to help support local businesses, support our growing community, and make sure our island continues to be a wonderful place to live, work, grow, and visit for my generations to come.
