Gibraltar Island is a tiny 6.5 acre island in the middle of Put-in-Bay and is home to Stone Laboratory, a biological field station operated by the Ohio State University and Ohio Sea Grant. Visitors take a guided walking tour of the island including stops at the Perry’s Lookout, the glacial grooves and the historic Jay Cooke Castle after learning about the research and education opportunities at Stone Lab. Tours are on Thursdays from mid-June to mid-August, 10-11:30 am and 1-2:30 pm. Costs are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Transportation is provided by the Boardwalk Water Taxi service. Fees for the water taxi are paid to the captain, and are $8 round trip from the Boardwalk marina to Gibraltar Island.
