During the season, you can catch a ferry over to Put-in-Bay but in the winter, all ferry services are suspended. The only way to get on and off the island is by plane! Island Air Taxi provides air service for South Bass Island and is based at Put-in-Bay Airport. You can call or text 419-573-2960 to schedule your flight.
There are several ice guides on the island who can help you plan your ice fishing trip. Rob LaPlante from Lake Erie Ice Charters is an experienced ice guide who resides on Put-in-Bay year around. Rob will set you up with an ice shanty, transportation to the shanty, and supplies if needed. Call Rob at 419-341-8859 to plan your ice fishing trip.
Put-in-Bay in the winter is much different than Put-in-Bay during the season. Many of the lodging options on the island close during the off season but there are still several options for lodging during the winter. Contact any of these businesses to reserve your room during your ice fishing trip.Bay Lodging Resort

Most businesses on the island will be closed during your trip but there are still a couple things to do, besides fish, while you’re here. Topsey Turvey’s Island Bar and Grille is one restaurant that stays open all year around. Topsey Turvey’s is a fun local hangout with great food!
If you need any supplies, check out Island Hardware. They have a little bit of everything from household supplies and automotive needs to electrical supplies and food.
